The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Trailer Hits Online

The first trailer for actor turned director Ben Stiller’s new film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, has just landed online and it is gorgeous.

A remake of the 1947 film, which itself was based on James Thurber’s 1939 short story of the same name, follows Walter Mitty (Stiller), an introverted photographer for Life magazine who daydreams about adventure and romancing his co-worker (Kristen Wiig), while suffering the torment thrown at him by Adam Scott. Until one day he discovers a mysterious photograph of an arctic explorer (Sean Penn) that tosses him into a real-life adventure that may rival even his wildest fantasies.

I happened to catch this trailer with my screening of The Wolverine this past weekend, and I had the same feeling a lot of you might have upon first viewing, awe. It is visually stunning, gorgeous, and absolutely one of the best trailers I’ve seen in quite a while. It certainly brings to mind last year’s big visual spectacle, Life of Pi, which if the story works, could bode well for Stiller come awards season. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. Oh, and by the way if you’re wondering what song accompanies the trailer, it’s called Dirty Paws by Of Monsters and Men.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed by Ben Stiller, releases Christmas Day of this year.
